REDCOM receives Top Workplace Award for second consecutive year

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The Democrat and Chronicle for the second consecutive year. Not only has REDCOM been recognized regionally, but the company has also been recognized nationally with the Top Workplaces Woman-Led Culture Excellence Award.

The list of Top Workplaces is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization, including alignment, performance, engagement, and leadership, just to name a few.

I am honored that REDCOM has been recognized as a Top Workplace in Rochester for the second year in a row,” said Dinah Weisberg, President and CEO, REDCOM. “And on top of that, we were recognized at the national level with a Top Workplaces Culture Award. We owe our employees a huge thank you for making this happen.”

Mrs. Weisberg continues, “It’s obvious that everyone has faced challenges in the past year dealing with COVID-19, but I couldn’t be more proud of how we have handled these massive adjustments as a company. We’ve kept our employees connected and driven towards a common goal, and we managed to close several large deals in the past year, including a multi-year contract with the U.S. Army. I’m amazed by what we have been able to accomplish in the face of a global pandemic, and I’m encouraged by what we have in the pipeline for 2021.

“During this very challenging time, Top Workplaces has proven to be a beacon of light for organizations, as well as a sign of resiliency and strong business performance,” said Eric RubinoEnergage CEO. “When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward. Top Workplaces draw on real-time insights into what works best for their organization, so they can make informed decisions that have a positive impact on their people and their business.”

REDCOM’s mission centers around enabling the most important conversations in the world for customers that include all branches of the military, government agencies, first responders, and telecom service providers. In a complex and competitive industry, REDCOM stands out from other communications companies by focusing on a refined set of functions that are integral to mission security.

“No one builds products with the level of interoperability, reliability, and ease of use that REDCOM does,” said Weisberg. “This challenge of meeting — and exceeding — customer requirements is what motivates the team here at REDCOM every day.”

REDCOM was founded in 1978 in Penfield, NY. In less than a decade, the company expanded so rapidly that it built a brand-new facility on a 40-acre campus in Victor, NY, which REDCOM still occupies today. The entrepreneurial roots from REDCOM’s early days continue to drive the company’s culture today. All employees are empowered to work autonomously and are afforded the power to drive change within the company and its products.

“What makes the culture here so special is that it is a family business. It’s not only my family’s business, but we’ve always treated our employees like extended members of the family,” said Weisberg. “Our support of the individual and our drive to make the individual succeed is what ultimately makes the whole organization perform at its best.”

REDCOM EMS Partners with Rochester Institute of Technology’s Image Permanence Institute

REDCOM EMS has been selected by Rochester Institute of Technology’s Image Permanence Institute (IPI) to provide calibration, troubleshooting, and repair services for IPI’s PEM2® Dataloggers. In the initial two-year contract period, REDCOM EMS will also serve as the call center for PEM2 technical support, and provide materials management and shipping services.

IPI is a university-based research center in Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Art and Design. IPI supports the preservation of cultural heritage collections in libraries, archives, and museums around the world. The highly accurate PEM2 datalogger collects and stores temperature and humidity data that is easily uploaded for analysis via USB flash drive.

REDCOM EMS was chosen as the PEM2 service provider after collaborating with another local business on a related request for proposals. Through interactions with IPI during that process, REDCOM EMS emerged as an experienced and trusted supplier acutely familiar with industry requirements.

This partnership allows REDCOM EMS to position itself as a resource for datalogger testing, calibration, and troubleshooting, as well as a trusted customer service center.

REDCOM EMS Project Manager, MaryAnn Gates, looks forward to working with a group like RIT’s IPI. “We are truly excited to be partnering with IPI as a provider for the maintenance, service, and upkeep of the PEM2 dataloggers. In a world where everything is disposable, it is a pleasure to be working with a company that understands the value of global heritage and helps to maintain and preserve it. The staff at IPI are wonderful to work with and we look forward to serving their customers.”

IPI Director of Operations, Lisa Cerra, is equally excited about the partnership. “The REDCOM EMS team is experienced, professional, and clearly committed to delivering exceptional service to PEM2 customers. This certification supplements the company’s existing ISO9001:2015 certification. AS9100D:2016 is a standardized quality management and quality assurance system developed for the specialized requirements of the aviation, space, and defense industries. The successful completion of the audit and certification to the international aerospace quality standard signifies REDCOM EMS’s commitment to meeting stringent customer requirements.

Employee Feature: Lauren Iuranich

REDCOM EMS has been experiencing exponential growth over the past few years. During this period of growth, REDCOM has been expanding its production capabilities with the addition of new equipment while going after certifications to help expand into new markets, such as aerospace and medical. None of this growth and success is accomplished without a hardworking team in place.

Lauren Iuranich is a Quality Engineer for REDCOM EMS. Within her position, she manages the quality of all products being manufactured on-site in Victor, NY and runs all certification efforts for REDCOM EMS. Most recently, Lauren led the company in obtaining the AS9100D certification and she’s in the process of obtaining ISO 13485:2016. There is a lot of work that goes into getting our site certified, including updating procedures and documents, meeting standards, going through audit processes, as well as physical preparations out on the floor.

Another big part of Lauren’s job is her ongoing efforts to continuously improve upon everyday processes and procedures. She’s passionate about tackling these projects and enjoys looking at a situation or problem and thinking of ways to fix things and make everyday workflow for the team more efficient. One project Lauren is working on currently is an MES, or Manufacturing Execution System, for our manufacturing facility. This would enable REDCOM EMS to go paperless, and every operation on the floor will be set up with a laptop and a scanner. Right now, most quality data is based on returns or captured manually. With the MES in place, traceability will vastly improve, data can be easily collected and retrieved, and quality records can be better tracked.

Lauren grew up in Western New York. She was born and raised in Buffalo and went to college at RIT where she got her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Lauren only started working at REDCOM in 2017, but since joining the team she has become a vital asset in paving the way forward to manufacturing growth and success.
